Shopping at a mall is convenient and easy, but it is also a place where there are thieves that prey on shoppers, whether it is to steal their purchases or their wallets and purses. When you shop at the mall, especially during a holiday season, there are certain things that you should do to make your shopping experience more pleasurable and safe.
Never leave your packages unattended for even a few minutes because that is all it takes for a thief to snatch and run.
Try to limit how many bags you are carrying at one time. You should never have more than a couple of large bags so you can keep track of them. If you have to, make a trip to lock some in the trunk of your car.
If you carry just a wallet, man or woman, do not carry it in your back pocket. Keep it in a front pocket to prevent having it taken.
Use a regular purse instead of a shoulder strap purse.
Be aware of your surroundings, especially if it is later in the evening near closing time. If you feel you are being followed look for mall security or go into a store and ask the clerk to call security or the police.
If you need to withdraw cash from an ATM machine in the mall, make sure that there is no one standing close enough to see what you are doing.
